The monthly jameya

The most common jameya is monthly, often timed around payday: each member pays a fixed amount every month, and each month one member receives the total.

Setting up a monthly circle

  • Amount: pick a contribution everyone can pay every month for the whole circle, not just the first months.
  • Members: the number of members is also the number of months. Ten members means ten months.
  • Order: agree the turn order before the start. In CIRCUL the organiser sets it, and it is fixed once the circle starts.
  • Payment day: agree the due date, and how much grace time a late payer gets.

Example

Ten members × 1,000 AED a month. Each month nine members transfer 1,000 AED to the organiser and the organiser transfers 9,000 AED to that month’s recipient. Over ten months each member pays 9,000 AED and receives 9,000 AED once.

Tracking it every month

Each month CIRCUL shows every transfer as due, reported, confirmed or disputed. Members see what they owe and when their turn comes. The organiser sees who has not paid yet and can give a member more time. The payment history keeps every cycle, so nobody has to rely on memory or a chat thread.

Questions

How does the recipient get the pot?

Once the organiser has confirmed every contribution of the cycle, they transfer the payout (the contribution × members minus one) to the recipient’s IBAN, and the recipient confirms it arrived in the app.

Can the turn order change after the start?

No. The organiser sets the turn order before the start. Once the circle starts, its members and turn order are fixed.

What if a transfer didn’t arrive?

Check your bank app first. If it isn’t there, tap “Dispute” and give a reason; the payer is asked to send it again. Disagreements are settled between members and the organiser; CIRCUL does not decide disputes and cannot recover money.
